Low FODMAP Valentine’s Day Celebrations!

A Low FODMAP Valentine’s Day conjures up two food images for us: the little “conversation hearts” candies that we traded in elementary school, and then on the other end of the spectrum, fine chocolates and champagne.

And red roses - but we want to concentrate on food here.

Luckily for all of us on the Low FODMAP diet, we can have those tiny, sugary heart-shaped candies, a bit of champagne and good dark chocolate, all in moderation of course.

The main point is that we celebrate this day on many different levels and wherever you are on the diet - elimination phase, challenge phase or beyond, and whether you are in the 6th grade or in your 6th decade, we have some suggestions for you.

Consider these Low FODMAP Valentine’s Day celebration ideas!

Think Red: Low FODMAP food for the holidays tends to be color themed - and the theme is red! A platter of chips and Fody Low FODMAP Salsa is a simple snack, or a romantic spaghetti dinner for two featuring our Low FODMAP Pasta Sauces would be a perfect set-up for a Lady and The Tramp moment. Google it. Red wine (5 ounces/150 ml) goes with the pasta, and beer (12.7 ounces/375 ml) works with the chips and salsa, and both beverages are Low FODMAP-approved in the designated amounts.

Think Simple: Maybe you are planning on proposing to your loved one, and that is occupying every scintilla of your being, or maybe you aren’t a cook and just need a super simple meal to make for your lovey-dovey. Toss linguine with our Fody Garlic Infused Olive Oil, some Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and lots of black pepper. That’s it. You’re done. You’re welcome J. More time for romantic pursuits.

Think Bubbly: Champagne or other sparkling wine is brought out at the most special of occasions, and this holiday is a perfect venue for a well-chilled bottle. Cava and prosecco can be found very inexpensively; you don’t have to break the bank for a bubbly drink. And FODMAPers can have 5 ounce/150 ml servings.

Think Sexy: Aphrodisiacs. Some folks think that there are foods that encourage a sexy, sensual feeling - and really, why not give them a try if you are so inclined? Some traditional aphrodisiacs are high FODMAP so steer clear of asparagus, honey, figs and watermelon. But you could certainly check out other Low FODMAP food for the holidays - think oysters, hot chiles, champagne, chocolate and strawberries, all of which make the aphrodisiac lists.

Think Sweet: Yes, those conversation hearts have Low FODMAP ingredients so although they have not been formally tested for FODMAPs, you should be fine eating maybe 6 of them. For chocolate lovers? Monash has us covered. You can have 1 ounce/30 grams of dark chocolate and half that amount for either milk chocolate or white chocolate.

Now go forth and spread the love! Have a happy Low FODMAP Valentine’s Day from all of us at Fody Foods!
